Dear concerned client.
I guess I should first start off by asking if you are a Vegan? If so, then I understand exactly where you are coming from. If you are not though? ... and regularly eat animal flesh - then I do not. :/
Emu is firstly a meat source. They are NOT "big farm" either. Always smaller farms and the emu are given a really great life. They run run run every day. Inside and outside of barns. They are not crammed into tiny areas where they are walking on top of eachother. Damaging each other. Fed poorly... you know those photos. They are just NOT. ... at all. I deal directly with the AEA and see how they are treated. What is allowed. Have you ever driven by an alpaca farm? That is it... Just like that!
Now, the oil is a by-product. Sourced after the meat/claws/feathers ... really every single part of them is used. So, instead of tossing out the fat remains .. it is used. And since it has been used for thousands of years we know all about the benefits. Since it is so great for healing and wound care/burns ... we want to offer this to our customers.
We are a Certified bottler with the AEA program (the first actually!), and have carried their AEA oil for years. If it weren't this particular situation .. and the animals lived poor lives and were ONLY killed for the oil, then NO I would not carry it. But that is not the case.
I hope this reaches you in a way that you can see why we do have it. Please know, that if anything ever changes with this situation for the negative, we would not have it available.
We also created our Essentials Healing Blend as an alternative .. but, this is smaller and more costly .. so not as great for body use. But, it is an excellent option.. and as long as the smell/scent of this is pleasing to you (it isn't to everyone), then this is an excellent alternative.
Thank you so much for writing in. I hope that my viewpoint on this is helpful for you. Jen
