We always want you to start with the lowest and work up from there. These are basic recommendations for TCA percentages. If you have thinner skin or melanin-rich skin, you will always want to opt for a lower percentage. Deeper color skin (Fitzpatrick 4-6) will definitely need to pretreat with a melanin inhibitor such as our Fade Bright for 4 weeks prior to a stronger peel such as TCA or Jessners.
With TCA we have 4 percentages to choose from:
7% = Mostly used for the eyes or those with extreme sensitivity issues. This can also be used on the lips if one chooses to do a stronger peel than a Lactic 50%. *This is a great percentage to choose if you have been using the AHA's (glycolic/mandelic...) and are wanting to move up in strength, but are still a bit leery.
13% = This is the place that we start most people with. It is very tolerable. We always want you to start with 1-2 layers and work up from there to 5. If you are performing 5 layers and want to do more...
20% = Start here if you have already worked your way up using the 13% or if you have had several in-office treatments of a higher strength tca.
30% = This percentage is used for scarring or body use only.
